The concept of making sustainable cloth menstrual pads was inspired by the experiences of students working with the Ni-Van women. It is anticipated that the use of these pads will reduce the cost of living for the birthing women of Vanuatu. The pads are relatively easy to make and the project is a positive way that ACU midwifery students can become involved in global midwifery and make a difference to the birthing women attending NPH.
The waterproof lining for the base of the pad will be purchased with funds raised and can be collected from ACU – collection times will be posted on the Basket Blong Mama homepage and Facebook page. We call for anyone who has cotton fabric to donate, or are interested in donating their time to sew pads and help us to make a difference for the women of Santo.
